Bruton: We’re looking sharp and ready for Bristol Challenge
Royals midfielder Lauren Bruton says team can’t wait to face Bristol City Women this Saturday
Saturday will mark Reading Women’s first competitive league game since November 6th with an exciting away tie to newly promoted Bristol City Women at Ashton Gate.
The tie will kick off Reading’s Spring Series, a unique one-off tournament consisting of 9 games over a short 6 week period.
Lauren Bruton, who was named as Reading Women’s player’s player of the year last season, says the team can’t wait to get started. “It’s been so long since the FA Cup game. We're all just really looking forward to the Bristol game to kick start the season - its been a long pre-season and we just can't wait for a competitive game. “
Bruton also praises the team’s pre-season preparations: “Pre-season has been very good, it’s been tough but we have got through it as a group and got what we wanted out of it. We’ve had some good results in our pre-season friendlies and we're looking sharp and ready for the Bristol game."
Saturday’s 6pm clash with Bristol Women at the 27,000 capacity stadium will be played directly after Bristol City’s (men’s) championship clash with Barnsley, which kicks off at 3pm. Bruton sees this as a positive move by the club: “It's fantastic to be playing at Ashton Gate straight after the men, hopefully getting more fans staying to watch our game afterwards - I think it could be a very good idea and something that we will hopefully see a lot more of. “
Looking ahead to the Spring Series, the 24 year-old, who scored two goals last season, both from the penalty spot, is targeting more goals: “my individual target for the spring series is to try and get into more goal scoring positions, and get on the score sheet more than last season”.
