Match Report | Reading 2 - 3 Chelsea
Frantic Five-Goal Finale
On the back of a midweek demolition job at Yeovil, the visitors looked sharp early on and led through So-Yun Ji. The midfielder’s deflected shot from inside the box breaking the deadlock inside 5 minutes.
Reading looked to try and find a way back into the game but Jade Moore and Fara Williams both had shots from distance which missed the target.
Chelsea weren’t far away from adding a second before the break but Maz Pacheco was on hand to turn Fran Kirby’s cross behind, with attacking players lurking.
Manager Kelly Chambers made a half-time change as Becky Jane replaced Millie Farrow, pushing Tash Harding up front with Lauren Bruton.
The switch-up certainly had the desired effect with Harding bagging her first Reading goal within five minutes of the second half. Williams clipped a cute ball over the back four, finding Harding who slotted past goalkeeper Hervig Lindahl.
That goal sparked a frantic few minutes as Chelsea led, only to be pegged back again. Karen Carney’s attempted cross looped into the far corner for the visitors. But virtually straight from kick-off, Harding’s chip over Lindahl came back off the bar before being turned in by Williams from close range.
Emma Hayes’ side led for the third time as Reading were caught over-playing inside their own penalty area. Jade Moore’s backpass was short and cut out by Bethany England, who instinctively poked past Moloney from close range on the hour mark.
The hosts pushed for another equaliser but Furness’ header went straight at Lindahl, having met Pacheco’s superb cross from the left flank.
