New Signing | Rakel Honnudottir
Reading FC Women are delighted to announce the signing of Icelandic international striker Rakel Honnudottir. Rakel joins the Royals from Swedish side IF Limhamn Bunkeflo 07 and will link up with Kelly Chambers squad immediately.
She was born and raised in Akureyri, a city in North Iceland, where she started her youth career with Þór. During her time at the club, Rakel scored an impressive 76 goals during 97 appearances, over 5 seasons. On top of that, Rakel made her debut for Iceland in 2008 at the Algrave Cup, beating Poland 2-0. Rakel continued to represent her country at the UEFA Women’s Championship in 2009 and 2013, scoring a total of 7 goals for the Senior National Team. She continued her career in her homeland by joining Breidablik in 2012, where she went on to score 46 goals in 103 appearances.
Manager Kelly Chambers said; “Rakel is a player we have been monitoring for some time now and are very happy to have a deal completed. Rakel has great attributes including her power, strength and a very good eye for goal with a variety of finishes.”

Rakel will take the squad number 15 and could potentially make her first appearance for the Royals this Sunday against Arsenal. Tickets are still available to purchase here.
