Nia Jones departs from the Royals
“The time has come for me to pursue an alternative challenge away from Reading Women FC, I’ll leave with fond memories" - Nia Jones
Wales international Jones has left the club following her contract coming to an end.
Jones, 24, joined Reading in 2015 from Cardiff City and went on to help the team lift the WSL2 trophy in 2015. A versatile player, Jones has played in both centre half and centre forward positions during her time at Reading, but has struggled to get regular game time throughout our inaugural WSL1 season.
Statement from Nia Jones: “The time has come for me to pursue an alternative challenge away from Reading Women FC. I’ll leave with fond memories of how we achieved our team objectives in consecutive seasons, but my focus now is to further improve as a player and one thing needed to enable this is to be playing games more regularly. I would like to say a big Thank You to the manager, the backroom staff, my teammates and the fans for making me feel at home in my two years at the club. I experienced my first year as a professional here and for that I am forever grateful. My fibula is getting better everyday and I’ve been able to step up my gym work and pitch participation a lot quicker than planned. So a special thanks to Callum and our medical team for the horrible yet enjoyable programming.”
Everyone at the club would like to wish Nia the very best for the future, and would like to thank her for her valuable contributions during her time at the club.
