This is the inaugural season for the Women's Super League Academy and so far our Academy team has had a solid start to the season Winning 3 and drawing 1 out of our first five games.

Eleven clubs will participate in the new Academy format which is geared towards balancing a young female player’s football development with their educational aspirations. The FA WSL Academy programme is effectively a dual careers programme. What that means is that it balances equally a female player’s football development and their academic, vocational or work-based aspirations.

Currently we have a squad of 19 Academy players who play every week against other Academies from WSL 1 clubs. Our most recent result was a fantastic 1-0 win against a strong Manchester City team. We have an extremely talented squad of players, of the 19 Academy players we have 6 international with 2/3 more being closely watch by England.

The team now find themselves sitting in 4th position in the league with a game in hand which could take us joint top. The attitude and commitment the girls have shown in the first part of the season to juggle their education and footballing lives has been fantastic and their confidence is growing every week. If the 1st team are every away we would love to see you down at Bisham Abbey to see the next generation of Reading FC players.
